10 Bible Promises for Mamas
Earlier in the week, as we were driving in the car, my sweet boy was overcome with a flood of emotion, with tears streaming down his face. His emotions seemed to come out of nowhere, with no cause or reason to what he was feeling. As I tried every strategy in my mama handbook, nothing would calm him down. In desperation and overwhelm, I asked the Lord to fill me with peace that surpasses all understanding, strength to endure the cries and emotions of my sweet boy and guidance to help the little of heart my son. In the midst of that prayer, I felt the Lord nudge my heart, “reach back your hand.” Instantly, as I reached my hand back to his car seat and touched his tiny hand, the tears stopped.
I’ve thought about that moment over and over since it happened; the power of simply reaching my hand back to my son and the impact of him choosing to hold it. It’s become such a picture of motherhood…how God is calling us to that type of childlike faith, inviting us to simply take hold of His hand as He reaches out to us in every circumstance and season. As we are the ones crying out, tears streaming down our face in all the desperation and overwhelm that each day brings, the Lord reaches out His hand for us to take hold. And as we choose to take hold, He is always faithful to remind us, “these are the promises I have for you.”
In all the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood, God is faithful to keep His word and His promises never fail. “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled” (Joshua 21:45). Not one of God’s promises has ever failed, not then and not now. Our God is trustworthy and His promises are the only thing that will never let us down. So, let me ask you, in those moments of desperation and overwhelm, where does your help come from?
God invites us into the fullness of His promises, but all too often I find myself looking down at my circumstance, wandering in my own way, forgetting to take hold of His faithful hand. His word declares, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2
As I’ve been praying over this scripture in my own life, I’ve been pondering this question— “If His word tells us to look to Him, do I truly know the specific promise of God for every trial that I walk through?” In my own moments of desperation and overwhelm, my minds tend to wander, though my heart desires to seek the Lord.
My prayer in searching God’s word for and sharing these 10 Bible Promises for Mamas is that these specific promises in His word would be the first place we go. As we look up to Him and press into His truth, may we find the hope of each promise for every trial, hardship and circumstance we are walking through. God has promised us peace, joy, presence, strength, guidance, deliverance, rest, purpose, mercy and hope in all things. May we pray through, press into and pour out these promises as all the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive. May they become our “go-to” scriptures, the ones we recall quickly to memory when the overwhelm and desperation comes. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23) and He is reaching out His hand for us to take hold.
1. PEACE
The Lord is near; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16:11
God has promised us fullness of joy. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
3. PRESENCE
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.
Deuteronomy 31:6
God has promised us that He will never leave or forsake us. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
4. STRENGTH
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-11
God has promised us His strength in for our weakness. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
5. GUIDANCE
You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Psalm 32:7-8
God has promised to instruct and teach us in the way we should go. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
6. DELIVERANCE
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
God has promised that this momentary affliction is preparing us for the glory of eternity to come. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
7. REST
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30
God has promised us rest for the soul. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
8. PURPOSE
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
He will send from heaven and save me;
he will put to shame him who tramples on me.
God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!
Psalm 57:2-3
God has promised to fulfill His purpose for our lives. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
9. MERCY
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
Lamentations 3:22-24
God has promised us mercies that never come to an end. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
10. HOPE
Our soul waits for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
For our heart is glad in him,
because we trust in his holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.
Psalm 33:20-22
God has promised us the hope of eternity. May we believe this promise and press into this truth as the humbling moments, hard weeks and heavy seasons of motherhood arrive.
As I continue to think about that moment in the car, reaching back to my son and holding his tiny hand until we arrived home, God has continued to paint the picture of our Savior, with arms stretched wide on the cross. As I imagine it all, tears stream down my face, a Savior that chose to endure the fullness of the wrath of God, willingly stretching out His arms to be nailed to that cross at Calvary, all because of His great love for us. Mama, that is the hand you are holding. The nail-scarred hand of a Savior who chose death on a cross for eternity to be with you. He who is promised, Jesus, is faithful.
So, while all our #thisismotherhood days are filled with desperation and moments of overwhelm, God’s word has the final say, and it is hope. He has promised us peace, joy, presence, strength, guidance, deliverance, rest, purpose, mercy and hope in all things. I pray that His word is our stronghold and His promise is our hope. He is reaching out His hand, embracing us with His steadfast love, reminding our hearts of each and every promise, for He who promised is faithful. May we be the mamas who choose to take hold.
