If there’s one thing that I pray that you rememb

If there’s one thing that I pray that you remember this Mother’s Day, it’s this… God chose YOU to be their mama. 🕊️

The Bible declares, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14).

When the Lord knit our hearts from the very beginning, he knew the story that was the come, of the mamas we would someday be, and the children he would someday knit into our hearts forever.

God didn’t choose the mama you’re striving to be nor the mama your following and hope to become. God didn’t choose the perfect version of who you are as a mama, he simply chose you for them and them for you.

In all your imperfections and brokenness, he called you to motherhood so that he could pour out his perfect love to the sweet ones he’s knit together, so that his grace could abound all the more.

I pray that this Mother’s Day, that truth sinks in deep into our souls. He created you to be exactly the mama they need, in all your giftings and all your shortcomings that are washed over by his unending grace.

Just as you are, fearfully and wonderfully made, you are the mama their little hearts need. Thank you, Jesus, for this highest honor and holy calling of motherhood, I praise you that you chose me to be this miracle boy’s mama.

Thank you, Jesus— motherhood is a miracle. To this beautiful boy on the earth, to our baby girl in heaven and to the ones that are yet to come, what an honor it is to be your mother. 🕊️

I’m learning that that motherhood is more than a sacrifice, it’s actually an invitation to the most beautiful surrender of my whole life. To lay down our lives and let our hearts love outside our body. To feel the fullness of joy and the depths of pain as our hearts are intwined with theirs. To give of our whole hearts to this ministry to which we have been called.

Through years of infertility, the miscarriage of our heavenly daughter, the waiting and longing for our sweet ones to come through adoption, and the praying that God will make a way for a pregnancy again— all of this is the beauty of surrender.

May this be our reminder, that in the messy, mundane and magical moments that fill our days, this ministry of motherhood is holy work and it matters more than we will ever know.

And someday I pray that my children remember that I loved being their mama, with my whole heart, and that I gave everything to this call on my life because of the depths of my heart for them.

What a gift it is to be a mother and what a good reminder these words are to our souls— we have the BEST LIFE mamas, and this is our invitation to press in and take hold.

The best weekend recap of camping with best friends. 🏕️☀️🌱

Our second annual family camping weekend together, making memories to last a lifetime and so grateful to do life with these dearest friends. From s’mores around the bonfire, dipping our toes into Lake Superior, hiking and fishing along the riverside, and the yummiest food, lots of laughter and heart-to-hearts under the stars (and a few ticks, fishing hooks, and camping at below freezing temps)…we’re dirty, sleepy, but absolutely filled to the brim, and wouldn’t have it any other way.

We never could have imagined that what started as 18-years-old college roomies would become the gift lifelong friendship like this— from family camping trips to raising babies who feel like siblings, soaking up all the joys of homeschool, walking through all of lives greatest joys and hardest trials together, our husbands and kids becoming the best of friends and over a decade of friendship (with a lifetime to go) filled with memories like this. I’m so grateful that God foresaw and made a way for it all…truly the richest life together. 🫶

The kids are already asking for our next camping adventure, truly the best weekend ever! So grateful for this beautiful life together and adding so many hours to @1000hoursoutside this year! Love you all to pieces. 🤍🌼🏕️

After almost a decade of marriage, countless joys

After almost a decade of marriage, countless joys and hard, hard trials— our goal this year is to prioritize friendship and learn to fall in love, again. 🤍✨🍷

I’ve talked to countless friends in our same season of life—in the thick raising babies, working hard to save and establish financially, finding new passions and hobbies we didn’t know we loved, working through the growing pains of marriage, and pouring ourselves out into all the things God has called us to…and the resounding feeling amongst all is that we all feel like we are learning how to love the new versions of our marriages.

So if you’re in a spot like this in your marriage, that you maybe feel like you’ve lost the “spark,” fallen out of the sweet friendship you once had, have started loving new things as the new versions of yourself, are walking through a hard or unexpected season, or maybe looked up from all that life has brought your way and thought “how did we get here”…you’re not alone.

But I truly believe that right now, we have this beautiful invitation, to reclaim the gift of friendship in our marriages and fall in love with this new and beautiful version of the one we married, that will impact all the years to come.

Because one day, when we’re married for 50 years, I believe that the daily faithfulness of pressing into the hard, growing pains and choosing selflessness, choosing friendship, and choosing marriage, really does have the power to create something more beautiful than we ever could have imagined and leave a legacy to impact generations to come.

So here’s to opening up a bottle of wine you’re saving for “someday,” making the homemade ravioli (with the pasta maker that’s been in a box since our first year of marriage), and embracing the gift of friendship and the simple joys of falling in love with each other again.

Let’s remain steadfast in marriage, allow God to do beautiful, holy and refining work through our every day faithfulness and wait with hope and expectation for the most beautiful story of our marriages to come!🍷🤍✨

It’s our favorite time of year, as garden season

It’s our favorite time of year, as garden season is officially here! This will be our fifth year of gardening on our little lot in the city, and here’s the top five things I’ve learning when it comes to growing a flourishing garden:

🌱 Know your zone.

The “growing zone” refers to the average temperate of a specific area and how the temperature impacts the survival of the plants. The zone also helps to determine the best time to plant, the plants that will flourish in your area and certain plants to avoid planting based on your climate.

🌱 Create a garden map.

Before planting your garden, I’ve learned that it’s helpful to list out what I would like to grow and then draw it onto a map, including the necessary spacing needed for each plant, the type of sunlight that will cause the plants to thrive and consider companion planting, need for vertical growth and any other specifics to make note of before planting my garden.

🌱 Learn about companion planting.

Over the past few years, I’ve learned a lot about a term called, “companion planting,” which refers to the idea of planting various crops next to one another which encourages pollination, increases the nutrients in and nourishes the soil, suppresses weeds and helps in the overall crop production in your garden.

🌱 Preparing the soil.

One thing I’ve learned is that the quality and health of my soil most impacts the overall growth, flourishing and crop production in my garden. Before planting, be sure to heavily till and loosen the soil, add compost, incorporate peat moss and add natural trace minerals back into the soil (@downtoearthfertilizers are my favorite).

🌱 Tips for pruning, harvesting and regrowth.

And lastly, I’ve been doing a ton of research these past five years about the impact of pruning plants (even though it feels like you’re negatively impacting growth, pruning gives way to abundant produce in your garden) and the way in which to harvest certain plants to encourage continued growth.
