FIVE DAILY RHYTHMS FOR HOMESCHOOL

When we first began our homeschool journey, I sought to choose rhythms for our days that would lead to development and growth through the early years. While there are so many things that we could focus on each day, we have decided to press into five daily rhythms, while supplementing other areas of developmental growth along the way.

FIVE RHYTHMS WE DO EVERY DAY IN THE EARLY YEARS OF HOMESCHOOL AND WHY —

1. PHONICS

• sound to symbol recognition
• reading fluency
• introduction to spelling

2. READ ALOUD

• language development
• reading comprehension
• curiosity & wonder

3. NATURE PLAY

• emotional regulation
• gross & fine motor development
• creativity & imagination

4. OPEN-ENDED PLAY

• critical thinking
• imagination & creativity
• self-regulation skills

5. LIFE SKILLS

• problem solving
• language development
• emotional connection
