#ThisIsMotherhood Series | Introduction

Today’s the day! I’m so excited to share something that’s been on my heart for months, a weekly series on faith and motherhood that I pray it connects us as mamas and draws us to the heart of God. As we begin the #ThisIsMotherhood series, my hope is to share the messy, mundane, and magical moments of motherhood and in sharing these everyday moments, embrace the gift of vulnerability, empathize with all the joys and trials, and pour out the promises of God into every moment of motherhood.

In every moment of my motherhood journey, God has been so faithful to show me His presence and draw my heart to His, in the mountaintop joys and the darkest valleys. He continues to use every situation to humble, sanctity and grow my heart, reminding me how desperately I need him in every minute of every day. While my heart is to share beautiful, heavy and hilarious moments that so often feel like they are defining our expectations of motherhood, my greatest hope is to remind our hearts of how God pours His grace and mercy into every moment, how He is teaching us to trust in Him and how His promises are faithful and true in every circumstance that motherhood brings.

As mamas, it’s our heart to become the very best mamas we can be for our babes. We seek and strive to become the best versions of ourselves as mothers, hold ourselves to the highest standards in how we love, nourish and disciple our children. Without realizing it, we carry this heavy weight of motherhood that was never ours to carry. About a year ago, as I was coming out of the newborn stage and into what felt like some sense of rhythm and normalcy, but suddenly I entered a season of doubt in my calling as a mama, battling constant “mom guilt” and the reoccurring question of “am I good enough mama for my son?” In the hope of believing I wasn’t alone, I took a poll asking mamas how they were really doing in motherhood with this simple question-

Have you ever struggled with mom guilt?

Whether it’s feeling like you’re not doing enough, working too much, too distracted, or simply that you could do more?

And the answer was a resounding 100%, every single mama answered “yes.”

I believe that this longing and desire to love our babes with a perfect loves comes out of the most beautiful place, as we seek to model our motherhood after our Heavenly Father, who loves us perfectly and fully in every way. But, what we don’t realize is that we often seek to model our lives and motherhood after Him, rather than going to Him and allowing Him to work in and through us as mamas, carrying the weight of motherhood that He alone can carry, and loving our babes perfectly through us, by the work and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We fall into the trap of believing that doing more, being more, giving more of ourselves to our children will fulfill their every need, when they really just need Jesus, pouring out his love and care through us, filling that void that was never ours to fill.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-11

As I’ve been praying over this truth in my own life, it’s been on my heart to press deeper into the practice of applying the Gospel, which is the good news of Jesus, over every ounce of my own motherhood journey – who He is, what He’s done and what He’s promised to us. I can’t wait to share these truths with you, as I am speaking them over my own heart each and every moment of the day.

Mama, we are in this together and I pray that we embrace this good news in motherhood, as God has made a new way that comes from walking with Him, being fully dependent on Him and allowing His grace to lead and guide us as mamas in every moment of our day.

With all that said, today’s the day and I would love for your to join me each week for the #ThisIsMotherhood series! I wish we were drinking golden milk lattes together at nap time, walking with our strollers around the lake or having you over for a playdate with all the joyful chaos and fresh scones out of the oven, but let this be my invitation to you, #thisismotherhood and your mess, mundane and magic are all welcome here.
